We begin with an evaluation of speech, language, oral motor and myofunctional skills. During this evaluation I'll be able to tell exactly IF there is a breakdown somewhere, why there is a breakdown and what you need to do about it.
What happens during a speech and language evaluation?
First, I will take a look in the mouth to see if all of the structures are within normal limits for speech production. Next, I'll give an articulation test to see if/how every sound of the english language is produced. Finally, I will give one or more language tests to see how well language is stored in the brain and how well it is used to communicate. I may even gather a language sample {script} from a conversation so I can dig a little deeper too.
Once the evaluation is completed, I will immediately sit down with you to discuss what my findings were and what you need to do. I may recommend therapy, a visit to another professional or tell you that things are just fine. Within ten business days, you will get a written report with all of the evaluation results.
What happens if therapy is recommended?
If I recommend therapy, we will discuss how often you should come for sessions. Each session is between 30-45 minutes and takes place either in one of my offices or within my online office {eligible clients only}. How often therapy will take place will depend on what I found during the evaluation. We will discuss what is best for treatment and also what fits best for you financially from my menu of services.
