Video: Laughter is Always the Best Medicine

Today is my regular video blog post day but I'm not posting a video of myself this time...instead I'm posting something that, I hope will serve as a reminder to you as you are trying to "stay the course" {our August theme} through the change process with yourself or your child.

I'd like to thank my last little client today who reminded me how much work can be done and much progress can be made when you take the time to laugh.

This little guy and I have a long standing therapy relationship. He has done SUCH an amazing job this summer with mastering his /r/ sound. Today, in our session, we started working on his final /r/ sound and he FAR surpassed what I had planned. We went from syllables to words to phrases to sentences. By the end of the session, he was beginning to even self-correct some of his final /r/'s in conversation!

The best part was that, along with our hard work, we laughed more than we ever have. He is having a terrible time with his allergies this week {like everyone it seems} and had some interesting sounds {cough like but not exactly} going on today. At one point, we got the giggles thinking how much he sounded like a cat trying to manage a hairball! Another high point, after successfully completing a row of 5 /r/-word phrases he said "hmm, I sound British now."

What? So funny!

His comment made me think of one of my favorite episodes of Frasier when Daphne Moon tries to sound American. For your enjoyment, here it is....
In some backward way...I guess I can see why my little guy thought he sounded British...but it could be that I'm just so doped up on allergy medicine that I think there is some connection.

I guess it doesn't really matter...the point is...LAUGH. Find something to laugh about each and every day. Especially on those days where you are feeling like the goal is not acheivable. Maybe laughing for a bit will give you some renewed perspective to "stay the course."

Until next time...keep growing and blooming.
